What F30 means
On GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH heat pump water heaters from 2025 on, F30 tells you the T1 tank temperature sensor is reading open or shorted. T1 is one of the two sensors that tell the control how hot the water in the tank is. When its reading is impossible, the control cannot manage heating properly. Owners see water that is too cool or too hot, uneven heating, or a heater that limits itself to protect the tank.
Common causes of F30
- T1 sensor and its plug-in connection
- Sensor wire damage or a pinched lead
- Control board input for the T1 reading
1. Write down the code and the model number from the label. 2. Check that the breaker is on and the display has power. 3. Do not pull on any sensor wires or open covers. 4. Call us so the T1 sensor can be tested and replaced if needed.
- An open reading and a short reading point to different problems, and we test which one it is.
- We make sure the control input is healthy before blaming the sensor.
- The replacement price is quoted in writing before we start.
Other Water Heater codes
What does T1 measure?
T1 is one of the tank temperature sensors. The control uses it to decide when to heat and when to stop, so a bad reading affects water temperature.
Is it safe to keep using hot water?
Use it with care, because the control may not see the true tank temperature. Test water at the tap before bathing and call us to fix the sensor.
Why do you not just replace the sensor?
A code shows the sensor reading is wrong, not why. A wiring or board input problem can cause the same reading, so we test first.
