What 2 means
Code 2 on a current GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical unit (AZ95E or AZ95H, for example the AZ95H09EAC) says the outside fan motor is not moving at its commanded speed. The control waits 90 seconds, flags the error, and clears it after 10 minutes. With code 2 active the heat pump and cooling stay off, leaving only resistance heat and the inside fan. It should not be confused with code 2 on AZ90 and AZ91 units.
Common causes of 2
- Outside fan motor not reaching speed
- Outdoor grille or air path blocked
- Motor wiring or drive signal to the outside fan
1. Hold MODE, press AUX and read the display to see the stored entries; -- means none. 2. AUX erases what is stored, while any other button exits with the entries intact. 3. Look at the outdoor grille from outside, if you can reach it safely, for leaves, debris or a covering. 4. Switch to heat or fan and let the room settle. 5. Leave the chassis closed and tell your property manager if code 2 returns.
- A blocked outside grille and a stalled motor can both stop the outside fan from reaching speed.
- We check the outdoor air path, then test the fan drive.
- The price is in writing before any work, and a 30-day workmanship warranty applies.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Can I still get warm air with code 2?
Yes, resistance heat and the inside fan keep working. You will not get heat pump heating or cooling until the outside fan error is dealt with.
Why would the outside fan struggle?
Debris on the exterior grille, a coastal or dusty location, or motor wear can all keep it from reaching speed. We look at the airflow first.
How is this different from the older AZ90 code 2?
The AZ90 and AZ91 code 2 reports a supply voltage problem. On an AZ95 it is about the outside fan, so the model generation matters.
Still seeing 2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
