What 3 means
On GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units, the current generation sold as AZ95E and AZ95H, code 3 refers to the external thermostat wiring. The signal arriving from the wall control is not valid and not constant for 30 seconds, so the unit ignores it. The result is that you lose external control, and the Zoneline works only from its own internal control. This code number means something else on the older AZ90 generation.
Common causes of 3
- Wall thermostat or remote control wiring giving an unstable signal
- Loose or damaged field wiring at the room control
- Control accessory not matched to the unit
1. Hold MODE, then press AUX, to cycle through the stored errors; -- means none. 2. Use AUX only if you want the list emptied, since other keys exit without erasing. 3. Set the temperature and mode on the unit itself and confirm it responds. 4. Check whether a wall control or building system is supposed to be commanding the room. 5. Do not touch the wiring behind the unit; report code 3 to your property manager.
- The wiring, the wall control and the unit input can each cause an unstable signal.
- We check the signal arriving at the unit and compare it with the room control.
- You receive a written price first, and our work has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Will the unit still cool or heat with code 3?
Yes. It falls back on the controls on the unit itself, so local operation continues while the external thermostat input is ignored. Property managers can confirm whether a building control is meant to be driving the room.
Who should look at this in a hotel or condo?
The property manager or maintenance team usually owns the wall control and the building wiring, so they are the right first contact. We can check the unit side.
Is code 3 the same on the older Zoneline?
No. On the AZ90 and AZ91 generation code 3 points to an indoor temperature sensor, so read the generation on the model label. Ask your property manager which generation is installed.
Still unsure about 3?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
