What Filter Reset light / Check Filter means
On GE and GE Profile window air conditioners with electronic controls (AHY, AHP, AHTR, AHTT, PHC and PHNT series, 2018 and newer) and on built-in AJCQ models, a Filter Reset light or Check Filter message tells you the air filter needs cleaning. It lights after 250 hours of operation. It is a reminder and not an error, and the unit keeps working. Models include the AHY08LZ, AHTR10AC, PHC08LY, AHTT08BC and AJCQ10ACH.
Common causes of Filter Reset light / Check Filter
- Filter due for cleaning after 250 hours of use
- Reset not pressed after cleaning
- Heavy dust or pet hair loading the filter
1. Switch the unit off and slide out the air filter. 2. Wash it gently and let it dry completely. 3. Put the filter back in. 4. Press Filter Reset; the light goes off. 5. If the light stays on after the reset, tell us which model you have.
- If the light returns right after a reset, we check whether the reset input is responding
- If cooling is also weak after a clean filter, we look at the coil next

Why is my window AC showing Check Filter?
It counts 250 hours of operation and then reminds you to clean the filter. It is a maintenance reminder, not an error, and the unit continues to run normally until you deal with it.
The light is still on after I cleaned the filter. Why?
You need to press Filter Reset after putting the filter back. That restarts the 250-hour count and turns the light off, so cleaning alone will not clear it.
Is a dirty filter really bad for my air conditioner?
Yes, it restricts airflow, makes the unit work harder and can let the coil get too cold. Cleaning the filter on schedule keeps cooling steady and protects the unit.
