What P2 means
On GE digital-display dehumidifiers from the 2008 to 2010 generation, including AHM30, AHH40 and AHM65 series units, P2 means the water bucket is full. The unit stops removing moisture until the water is emptied and the bucket is seated back in place. The display shows P2 and the unit will not restart its cycle while the bucket condition remains. It is a simple maintenance alert, not a failure.
Common causes of P2
- Bucket full of collected water
- Bucket not seated fully after emptying
- Float or bucket switch not registering the bucket position
1. Slide the bucket out carefully with both hands so water does not spill. 2. Empty it into a sink or drain. 3. Dry the bucket rim and slide it fully back into place until it seats. 4. Wait for the unit to resume. 5. If P2 stays on with an empty bucket, remove and reseat the bucket once more and check the water for debris near the float.
- If P2 persists with an empty, seated bucket, the float or bucket switch may not be signaling correctly.
- We check how the unit reads the bucket position and the float movement.
- You see a written price before any repair, and our work has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Dehumidifier codes
Why does P2 appear when the bucket looks empty?
The unit may not detect the bucket as seated, or the float may be stuck. Reseating the bucket firmly is the first thing to try.
Can I connect a hose to avoid emptying the bucket?
Many GE dehumidifiers have a continuous drain option, but only if the model is built for it. Check your model for a drain connection before attaching a hose.
Does P2 mean the unit is leaking?
No. P2 is about the bucket being full, not a leak. If you do see water on the floor, check the bucket seating and the drain hose connection, if one is used.
Still unsure about P2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
