What C1 means
On GE electronic-control dishwashers that show C-codes, such as the GDT530PSDSS, C1 means the pump-out during a drain step ran longer than 2 minutes. The control expected the tub to empty in less time, so it stopped and displayed the code. Not every C-code appears on every model. You will usually find standing water in the bottom of the tub, a beeping panel, and a wash cycle that did not finish. The usual path of the water is the drain hose, the air gap and the disposer.
Common causes of C1
- Air gap clogged or stuck
- Drain hose kinked, crushed or sagging
- Garbage disposer knockout plug not removed or disposer jammed
- Filter or drain area packed with debris
- Drain pump slow to move the water
1. Clean the air gap on the sink or counter. 2. Straighten or replace a kinked drain hose and reposition it. 3. Run the garbage disposer to clear its inlet. 4. Press Reset or Cancel and run a short cycle. If C1 returns after these steps, stop using the dishwasher and arrange a visit.
- Clearing the air gap and hose does not show us whether the pump moves water properly.
- We check the filter, the drain path and the pump, in that order.
- A written price comes before any repair work.

What does C1 mean on my GE dishwasher?
The pump-out step ran for more than 2 minutes without the water leaving. It is a drain-time condition, so the first suspects are the air gap, the hose and the disposer connection.
Is C1 an emergency?
Not usually, but standing dirty water is unpleasant and can smell. Do not keep re-running cycles on a full tub, because the water has nowhere to go.
How do I stop the beeping from C1?
Press Reset or Cancel on the panel. That silences the alert, but the code will return on the next drain if the path is still restricted.
Still seeing C1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
