What H20 (spelling variant) means
On GE dishwashers, H20 is another way the low-water message appears, and it matches the H2O display on the electronic models. It shows when the dishwasher did not take in enough water during fill. This is most often seen on the first run after installation, after plumbing work in the house, or when the supply was recently turned off. You may see the code, hear the fill valve working and find only a little water in the tub. The control stops the wash rather than run with too little.
Common causes of H20 (spelling variant)
- Hot water valve under the sink partly closed
- Supply line kinked or air in the line after plumbing work
- Unit not level so the water level reads low
- Inlet valve screen clogged
1. Open the hot water shutoff valve under the sink all the way. 2. Check that the dishwasher sits level. 3. Change the cycle option, then change it back. 4. Start the cycle again and watch the fill. 5. If the tub stays low on water, stop the dishwasher and book a visit.
- A fully open valve and level unit do not prove that the fill valve opens fully.
- We check the inlet valve, its screen and the water level sensing.
- The price is in writing before work.
Other Dishwasher codes
Is H20 the same as H2O on my GE dishwasher?
They appear to be the same display, one written with a zero and one with the letter O. Both mean the dishwasher did not get enough water during fill.
Why does H20 show up after plumbing work?
Air in the line or a valve that was left partly closed can reduce the flow. Open the hot valve fully and run the cycle again.
What does leveling have to do with it?
An unlevel dishwasher can read the water level wrongly, so it thinks the tub is low. Check that it sits level front to back and side to side.
