What ERR means
On GE, Profile and Café ranges and wall ovens with electronic oven controls, ERR on the display means an invalid entry was made while the controls were being set. It might be a time or temperature outside the allowed range, or keys pressed in an order the control does not accept. This is a message about the entry, not about the oven hardware. The oven simply ignores what was typed, and the display shows ERR until you start the setting over.
Common causes of ERR
- Temperature or time value outside what the selected function accepts
- Keys pressed in an order the control did not expect
- A stuck or sticky pad registering an extra press
1. Press the Clear/Off pad to cancel the entry. 2. Re-enter the setting slowly, one pad at a time. 3. Make sure the pads are clean and dry, with no spills sitting on them. 4. If ERR comes back every time with a normal setting, write down what you entered and call us.
- If ERR returns on a perfectly normal entry, we need to find out whether a pad is registering presses you are not making.
- A pad that sticks can look like a user error, and only a test of the keypad tells the two apart.
- We check the keypad response before anyone suggests replacing a control.

What does ERR actually mean on my oven?
It means the control rejected what was entered. Think of it as the oven saying the setting does not fit. Starting the entry again with a valid time or temperature normally clears it right away.
Why does ERR keep showing even after I clear it?
If you re-enter a normal setting and ERR still appears, a pad may be misreading your touch. Moisture or grease on the keypad can do this. Wipe it dry and try once more before calling.
Does ERR mean the oven is broken?
Usually not. It is a message about the entry rather than a failed part. If it repeats on settings that worked before, we test the keypad and give you a written price before any repair.
Still unsure about ERR?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
