What F37 means

On GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH heat pump water heaters from 2025, F37 means the T5 ambient temperature sensor has failed. T5 reads the temperature of the room air around the unit, which the control uses to decide whether the heat pump can run efficiently. When the reading is lost, the control cannot judge the room and may restrict heat pump operation. You may see slower heating and more electric element use.

Common causes of F37

  • T5 sensor and its connector
  • Sensor lead damage
  • Control board input for the ambient reading
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Jot the code and the model number on a note you can read to us. 2. Notice whether the room around the heater feels unusually hot or cold, since that can matter. 3. Leave the housing closed and do not pull on any wires. 4. Call us to test the T5 sensor circuit and its connector, and we will compare it with the room.

! Why to stop there
  • A bad reading and a truly extreme room are two different things, and we look at both.
  • We test the circuit before replacing the sensor.
  • The written price comes first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F37F37 questions
Is F37 the same as F48?

No. F37 is a failure of the T5 sensor itself. F48 is a check for ambient temperature that is outside the range the heat pump can work in.

Does room temperature matter?

Yes, heat pumps work best in moderate air. We check the room conditions as well as the sensor, so we can tell a bad reading from a truly extreme space.

Can I use hot water meanwhile?

Yes, the electric elements can still heat the tank. It costs more to run than the heat pump, and recovery after heavy use will be slower than you are used to.
