What F96 means

On GE Profile GeoSpring hybrid heat pump water heaters made from June 2025, such as the GEH50DEEJSC, F96 means the CTA module is disconnected or its battery is low. The CTA module is the small add-on that sits with the heater and talks to the control. When it loses its link or power, the control shows F96. Your water heating usually continues, but the module's features may not work.

Common causes of F96

  • Module not connected
  • Module battery low
  • Module not seated correctly
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the CTA module is plugged in and seated the way your owner's manual shows. 2. Reconnect it if it has come loose. 3. Replace the module battery if it is low, using a fresh one. 4. Watch the display and confirm F96 clears. 5. If F96 remains, call us and we will test the module.

! Why to stop there
  • A reconnected module with a fresh battery that still shows F96 needs testing.
  • We check the connection and the control.
  • Water heating normally continues while we work out the module.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

It is a small add-on that connects to the water heater and communicates with its control. F96 means the control cannot reach the module, or the module battery is weak.

Is F96 urgent?

Usually not. It is a notice about the module, and water heating normally continues. Reconnect the module or replace its battery, following the steps in your owner's manual.
