What 8 means
On GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units, the current AZ95E and AZ95H line, code 8 is a software error recorded as a stack overflow in the control program. It has no effect on how the unit runs, so heating and cooling continue as normal. You would only notice it if you open the stored error list. On the older AZ90 and AZ91 generation, code 8 is about the number of cycles per hour.
Common causes of 8
- One-time software event recorded by the control
- Brief power disturbance in the building
- Control that logs the entry repeatedly
1. Hold MODE and press AUX to view the stored entries; -- means none. 2. Pressing AUX removes the entry, but another key exits and leaves it in memory. 3. Run the unit normally and see whether code 8 comes back. 4. No other action is needed while the unit performs as expected. 5. Mention it to your property manager only if it returns often.
- A single logged event is harmless, but frequent returns could point to the control.
- We look at how often the entry comes back and whether anything else changes.
- If work is needed, we give a written price first and cover it with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Should I be worried about code 8?
Usually not. The unit keeps operating as before. It is a record in the list, not a shutdown. You can safely carry on using the room.
Will clearing it fix anything?
Clearing just empties the list. If the entry returns often, that is the point worth reporting. Clearing is optional and does not change how the unit performs.
Is it the same as AZ90 code 8?
No. The AZ90 and AZ91 code 8 flags excessive cycling, more than nine starts in an hour. The AZ95 meaning is purely software. Look at the model label to see which generation applies.
Still unsure about 8?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
