What PF means

On GE electronic dishwashers that display C-codes, such as the GDT530PSDSS, PF means a power failure happened. Power dropped out while the dishwasher was running or waiting, and the control remembers that the cycle was interrupted. You see PF on the display and the dishwasher is idle. It is a notice, not a breakdown, and the dishwasher normally works as usual once you restart it. A short outage, a tripped breaker or unplugging the unit are the usual reasons.

Common causes of PF

  • Power outage or brownout in the home
  • Breaker tripped or switched off
  • Unit unplugged or power interrupted during a cycle
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Close and latch the door. 2. Select the cycle and options you want. 3. Press Start. 4. If PF shows again, check that the dishwasher breaker has not tripped and that the unit is receiving power. 5. Make sure the plug, if there is one, has not been knocked loose.

! Why to stop there
  • If PF returns without any outage, something may be interrupting power to the control.
  • We check the supply, the wiring at the unit and the control.
  • We explain the findings before work and give a written price.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
PFPF questions
What does PF mean on a GE dishwasher?

PF means a power failure occurred. The control noticed the interruption, so it shows PF until you pick a cycle and press Start again to resume normal operation.

Do I need a repair for PF?

Usually not. Select a cycle and options, press Start, and the dishwasher should run normally. Repair is only worth considering if PF keeps coming back.

Why does PF keep returning?

Repeated PF without an outage can point to a loose power connection or a tripping breaker. Check the breaker first, then let us test the supply and control.
