AWHR50LB
GE AWHR50LB Dehumidifier Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Bucket-full sensing that stops the unit with room left in the bucket
- Drain hose connection dripping or not draining by gravity
- Frost on the evaporator coil and weak water removal
- Fan running but no moisture collected
- Smart Dry not responding to the humidity setting
The AWHR50LB is a GE ENERGY STAR 50-pint smart portable dehumidifier, 14 1/2 in wide and powered by household electricity. It is built for wet spaces such as basements, laundry rooms and crawl-space entries, and it can run into the external drain connector instead of filling its 15.0 pt bucket.
On this model we start with the bucket float and switch, because a unit that shuts off early usually is not full at all. Then we look at the drain connector and hose, the coil for frost, the fan, and how the LED display and Smart Dry setting respond. On portable units of this type, a dusty coil and a clogged air filter cause most weak performance, so we clean both before deciding on a part.
Before we order anything we read the model and serial from the label on the cabinet. You get a written price first, and our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.

Can this dehumidifier drain without emptying the bucket?
Yes. The AWHR50LB has an external drain connector, so a hose can carry water away continuously. If water leaks at the fitting or backs up, we check the connector seal and the hose slope before suspecting anything inside.
Why does it stop while the bucket is only partly full?
The 15.0 pt bucket works with a float and switch. If the bucket sits slightly off or the float sticks, the unit reads full and quits. We test the switch and the bucket seating first, which is a quick check.
Does the smart control change how you repair it?
The display and humidity sensing sit on the control side, so we check that the unit responds to its own buttons before blaming the app connection. Mechanical parts like the fan and coil are still tested the standard way.
