What Power Fail / High Temp means
On GE upright no-frost freezers with the 7-segment electronic control (FUF14, FUF17 and FUF21 series), a flashing temperature display together with High Temp is the power-failure reminder. A power outage let the inside temperature rise. If the temperature recovered before Alarm Reset was pressed, the display keeps flashing so you know an outage happened while you were away. It is an informational flag.
Common causes of Power Fail / High Temp
- Power outage or tripped breaker that warmed the interior
- Alarm not yet acknowledged after the freezer recovered
- Cord pulled loose or outlet that lost power
1. Press Alarm Reset to silence the alarm and stop the flashing. 2. The High Temp LED stays on until a safe storage temperature is reached; give the freezer time. 3. Check the outlet and breaker. 4. Inspect frozen food for thawing before you refreeze or eat it.
- If the display flashes again with no outage, the power supply to the freezer needs a look.
- We check the outlet, the cord and how the freezer recovers.
- If the High Temp LED never clears, we test the cooling system, with a written price first.
Other Freezer codes
Why is my freezer display flashing?
A power outage warmed the freezer. If it recovered before you pressed Alarm Reset, the display flashes as a reminder that the outage happened. It remains until you acknowledge it.
How do I stop the flashing?
Press Alarm Reset. That silences the alarm and stops the flashing. The High Temp LED stays on until a safe storage temperature is reached. It does not mean the freezer is broken now.
Is my food safe?
That depends on how long it was warm. Look for softened packages or ice crystals, and use your judgment. When in doubt, discard it. Smell and texture alone are not a reliable test, so lean on caution.
