What Temp Alarm light means
Some GE electronic chest freezers in the FCM15, FCM20 and FCM25 series have Power, Alarm Off and Temp Alarm lights. A blinking red Temp Alarm light with a buzzer means the inside temperature has reached an unsafe level. It also blinks at first plug-in until a safe freezing temperature is reached. If the cause is not solved the buzzer turns on again after 12 hours, and it stops itself after 48 hours while the light keeps blinking.
Common causes of Temp Alarm light
- Lid ajar or its seal worn
- Large load of unfrozen food
- Power interruption that let the chest warm
- Cooling system not holding temperature
1. Press ALARM OFF to silence the buzzer. 2. Close the lid fully and check the seal is clean and flat. 3. Keep the lid shut while the chest recovers. 4. The light stops blinking once a safe temperature returns. 5. If it keeps blinking, move food elsewhere and call us.
- A light that keeps blinking after the freezer has had time to recover means the chest is not holding temperature.
- We check lid seal, evaporator frost and the cooling cycle.
- Because the buzzer quits after 48 hours, do not assume a quiet chest is a cold chest; we price in writing first.

What does the blinking red Temp Alarm light mean?
The inside of the chest freezer has reached an unsafe temperature. At first plug-in it blinks until the chest is cold enough. The buzzer is only a notification, not a cure.
The buzzer stopped. Is it fixed?
Not necessarily. The buzzer stops itself after 48 hours, but the light keeps blinking while the temperature is unsafe. Check the contents. Give the chest several hours to recover after a lid opening.
How do I silence it?
Press ALARM OFF. That quiets the buzzer only. The cause still needs to be solved, or the buzzer comes back after 12 hours. Check your food, because a quiet chest is not necessarily a cold one.
