What SENSOR ERROR means
On GE Profile Advantium speedcook ovens in the PSB9120, PSB9240 and PWB7030 or PWB7027 series, SENSOR ERROR with an oven signal means the amount or type of food inside does not match the program you set. It can also mean steam was not sensed because plastic wrap was not vented or the food was too small. Examples are the PSB9120SFSS and PSB9240SFSS. The oven stops that program, but nothing is damaged.
Common causes of SENSOR ERROR
- Food amount or type not matching the program
- Plastic wrap not vented, trapping steam
- Food too small for the sensor to read
- Steam sensor not reading
1. Press CANCEL/OFF. 2. Set the oven program to match the food or liquid you placed inside. 3. Vent plastic wrap so steam can escape. 4. Try the program again, using timed cooking if the portion is very small. 5. Check that the dish is the size the program expects.
- If the message appears with correct programs and vented food, whether the sensor is reading stays unknown
- We check the sensor circuit; a mismatch between food and program needs no repair
Other Microwave & Advantium codes
Why does my Advantium say SENSOR ERROR with a small portion?
The sensor looks for steam. A small portion may not give off enough, so choose a program that suits that food or switch to timed cooking, which does not depend on steam.
Does plastic wrap cause SENSOR ERROR?
It can. Wrap that is not vented traps steam, and the sensor never sees it. Vent the wrap or use a lid that lets steam escape, then restart the program.
Is this the same as the ERR message on regular microwaves?
It is similar but not identical. On the Advantium the wording points to a mismatch between the food and the program, while a regular microwave blames the door or the steam.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
