What LOC / LOCKED means
On GE, GE Profile and Café microwaves and Advantium ovens with Child Lock-Out, messages such as LOC, LOCKED, CONTROL LOCKED and CONTROL LOCK IS ON mean the control panel has been locked, on purpose or by accident. The pads are ignored until the lock is released. Typical units are the JES1657SMSS, JVM7195SKSS, PVM9005SJSS, PVM9179SRSS and PSB9120SFSS. The microwave itself is fine. Which pad unlocks it depends on the model.
Common causes of LOC / LOCKED
- Child lock-out switched on
- Unlock pad pressed on by accident while cleaning
- Wrong unlock pad pressed for this model
1. Press and hold the unlock pad for about 3 seconds. 2. On the JES1657 and PEM31 use Cancel/Off. 3. On the JVM7195 and JVM6175 use Set Clock; on the PVM9005 use Lock Control; on the PVM9179 and PVM9215 use Mute On/Off. 4. On Advantium PSB and PWB ovens hold CANCEL/OFF for 5 seconds.
- If the display ignores every pad after unlocking, whether the touch panel is responding stays unknown
- We test the pads and the control; if the lock only needed releasing, there is nothing to repair

How do I turn off LOC on my GE microwave?
Press and hold the unlock pad for about 3 seconds. Which pad that is depends on the model, such as Cancel/Off, Set Clock, Lock Control or Mute On/Off, as listed above.
Why does the Advantium take longer to unlock?
On PSB and PWB Advantium ovens you hold CANCEL/OFF for 5 seconds rather than 3, so if you release too early the lock stays on and the message remains.
Can the lock switch itself on?
The lock is turned on by pad presses, so brushing the pad while wiping the panel can switch it on. If it keeps coming back with nobody touching it, the panel needs a look.
