What HOT means
On GE, GE Profile and Café convection microwaves, such as the PVM9179SRSS, CVM517P2RS1 and PEB7226SFSS, HOT appears after convection cooking when the door is opened. You can still microwave right away. After high baking temperatures or broil, the oven may need to cool briefly before it accepts a microwave program. This is normal and tells you the cavity and cookware may be hot to the touch.
Common causes of HOT
- Cavity still hot after convection baking or broiling
- Door opened right after a convection cycle
- High baking temperature needing a short cool-down before microwave cooking
1. Use only cookware that will not stick to hot surfaces; avoid plastic wrap and paper. 2. Wait briefly if a microwave program is not accepted. 3. Use oven mitts when removing food. 4. Let the cavity cool before wiping it out. 5. Check that the door seal area is clean once the cavity has cooled.
- If HOT stays on with a cool cavity, we check the temperature sensing that drives the message.
- We also check the door switch.
- Written price first, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.

Why does my microwave say HOT?
After convection cooking, HOT shows when the door is opened because the cavity is still hot. It is a normal reminder to be careful with the interior and cookware.
Can I still use the microwave when it says HOT?
Yes, in many cases you can microwave right away. After high baking temperatures or broil, wait briefly if a program is not accepted, then try again.
What should I avoid putting inside?
Avoid plastic wrap and paper that could stick to hot surfaces or melt. Use cookware that handles heat well, and let the cavity cool before cleaning it.
Still unsure about HOT?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
