What FOOD / Insert Food means

On GE countertop and over-the-range microwaves that use a 5-minute door-open safety timer, such as the JES1657, PEM31 and PEB7226, the display shows FOOD or Insert Food when the control did not see the door opened. It concludes that no food has been placed inside yet, so it will not start heating. This stops the microwave from running empty. It is a protective prompt, not a failure.
