What 15 means
Code 15 on GE UltraFresh front-load washers (GFW510, GFW550, GFW650 and GFW850 series, 2020 and newer) means the water temperature thermistor is disconnected, missing or no longer reading as a working sensor. The control then cannot judge water temperature. A technician reads the number in the stored error history, and these models may show it on the display too. Owners may see wrong wash temperatures, cycles that skip heating steps, or a cycle that will not finish.
Common causes of 15
- Thermistor connector that has worked loose
- Open or damaged wiring to the thermistor
- The thermistor itself reading as absent
- Control input for the temperature circuit
1. Stop the cycle and note which temperature setting you were using. 2. Run a short cold-water cycle to see whether the washer still completes normally. 3. Keep the door and detergent drawer clear and do not pull panels off to look for the sensor.
- A reading that is open or out of range could be the sensor, its wiring or the input at the control, and only testing tells them apart
- We check the thermistor circuit and compare its response to the water temperature
- The written price is approved before work starts, and the repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty
Other Washer codes
Why is my wash not hot?
With the thermistor unreadable, the control cannot confirm water temperature, so it may skip or shorten heated steps. We confirm the sensor circuit before suggesting a repair.
What is the thermistor?
It is the small sensor that tells the control how warm the water is. When it reads as absent, the control cannot manage heated steps properly.
Is the washer safe to run?
Cold cycles are generally fine, but we recommend having the circuit checked so heated cycles work again. Hot cycles are the ones affected, so skip them until the temperature reading is confirmed working again.
