What bALAnCINg means
On GE top-load washers with a display from 2015 on, such as the GTW720 and the Profile PTW600, bALAnCINg means the washer cannot spin properly because the load is no longer evenly distributed in the tub. It usually appears with the SPIN light flashing. The washer stops short of a full-speed spin to protect itself, so you may find clothes wetter than normal and a heavy lump of fabric on one side of the drum.
Common causes of bALAnCINg
- Bulky or single heavy item pushed to one side
- Mixed load of towels and light clothing
- Washer not sitting level on the floor
1. Open the lid and spread the clothes out evenly around the tub. 2. Take out or add items so the load is not one big bundle. 3. Press Start, or select Drain & Spin and press Start. 4. If it repeats with a normal load, check that the washer does not rock on the floor.
- A balanced load that still triggers the message makes us check that the washer is level and the feet are firm.
- We look at the suspension and the lid area when the drum moves more than it should.
- We write the price before work begins, and our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.

Why does my GE washer say bALAnCINg?
The load shifted to one side and the drum cannot spin at speed. Redistribute the clothes evenly and run Drain & Spin. It is a load issue far more often than a washer issue.
Is bALAnCINg the same as the flashing Spin light?
It is the display version. A flashing Spin light on its own is covered separately, while this text appears on display models with the Spin light flashing along with it.
Does a single comforter cause this?
Often, yes. One large item can ball up on one side. Mix in a few towels or wash it with fewer items so the weight spreads around the drum.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
