What Door / door means
On GE UltraFresh front-load washers such as the GFW510, GFW550, GFW650 and GFW850 (2020 and newer), plus the Profile PFW870 and PFW950, the 24-inch GFW148 and the GFQ14 combo, the display shows Door when three cycles have been started in a row without the door being opened. The washer then refuses to begin another cycle until the door is opened. On the Profile 49-3000368 family the same message also appears if you press Start while the door is not fully closed. The wash itself is unaffected.
Common causes of Door / door
- Whether the door really was opened between the last cycles
- Door closing fully and the latch seating on the Profile family
- Door switch signal reaching the control when the door is opened and shut
1. Open the door fully, then close it firmly until it clicks. 2. Start a new cycle. 3. If you run back-to-back loads, open the door for a moment between cycles so the count starts over. 4. If the message returns even though you opened the door each time, stop and let us look at it.
- If the message comes back after you open and close the door, the door switch signal may not be reaching the control, and that takes a meter reading to confirm.
- We also check the latch and strike alignment, since a door that looks shut can still be a hair off.
- We quote the price in writing before any work, and repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Washer codes
Why does my GE front-load washer say Door when the door is closed?
The washer counts cycles started without the door being opened. After three, it wants you to open the door once. On Profile models it also appears when the door is not fully shut at Start.
Is Door the same as the DOOR OPEN message on a GE combo unit?
No. DOOR OPEN belongs to a different GE platform, the UltraFast combo. The Door message here belongs to the UltraFresh front-load family and means the reminder described above.
Can I just keep opening the door to avoid it?
Yes. Opening the door between loads resets the count, and it also lets the rubber seal air out. If the message shows up even then, the door switch needs testing.
Still unsure about Door / door?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
