What CLrFLtr means
On the GE 24-inch compact front-load washer GFW148 and the 24-inch washer and condenser-dryer combo GFQ14, CLrFLtr (also shown as CLr Fltr) means the washer saw slow draining during the spin and drain portions of a cycle. The drain pump filter may be clogged with lint, coins or small items. You see the message on the display and the cycle may slow down or stop with water left in the drum.
Common causes of CLrFLtr
- Drain pump filter packed with lint or small objects
- Kinked or restricted drain hose
- Standpipe or house drain draining slowly
1. Turn the unit off and shut off its water supply. 2. Disconnect the drain pump filter drain hose and let the water out into a shallow pan. 3. Clean the drain pump filter, then reconnect everything after cleaning. 4. Check the main drain hose for a kink. 5. Turn the water back on and run Drain & Spin.
- If the filter is clean and the message returns, we check the drain pump and its wiring path for a restriction.
- On the GFQ14 combo we also look at the condenser side, since lint can travel there.
- You get a written price before any work, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.

How often should I clean the drain pump filter on a GE compact washer?
There is no fixed interval in what we work from. Clean it when CLrFLtr appears, and sooner if you wash lint-heavy loads or pocket items often turn up in the drum.
Why does water come out when I open the filter hose?
The filter sits at the bottom of the drain path, so water above it drains out first. Place a shallow pan and towels underneath, and open the hose slowly.
Does CLrFLtr mean the pump is bad?
Not by itself. It points to slow draining, and a clogged filter is the first thing to check. If a clean filter does not stop it, we test the pump circuit next.
