What F + number or letter means
On GE, GE Profile and Café wall ovens with an LCD touchscreen, such as the PTS7000, PTS9000, PTD7000 and Café CTS70 series, an F followed by a number or letter is a function error code. The oven is telling you its control noticed something outside normal operation in a cooking function and put a code on the screen. The characters after the F point to a specific circuit, but this page covers the whole family rather than any single number. The oven may stop heating until the message is dismissed.
Common causes of F + number or letter
- Temporary control or sensing glitch that clears after a cool-down
- Oven cavity or electronics that were hot when the code appeared
- A repeating condition in the temperature sensing, door lock or heating circuit
- Power interruption that left the control in an unexpected state
1. Press Dismiss on the LCD screen. 2. Allow the oven to cool for one hour, then put it back into operation. 3. If the code returns, disconnect all power to the oven for at least 30 seconds, then restore it. 4. If it repeats again, write down the exact code and call for service. 5. Knob and touch-pad ovens use Cancel or Off instead of Dismiss.
- Which circuit the code points to depends on the exact characters, so we read the full code before testing anything.
- We check sensors, door lock and wiring for that circuit rather than replacing parts on a guess.
Other Wall Oven codes
Does every F code mean the same thing?
No. The F says a function error occurred, and the characters after it identify which circuit. Write down the whole code, including letters, so we know where to start looking.
Is it safe to try the oven again after an F code?
Dismiss the message, let the oven cool for an hour, then use it normally. If the code returns, cut power for at least 30 seconds. Repeated codes should be looked at.
What should I tell you when I call?
Give us the full code as shown, the oven model, and what the oven was doing when it appeared, such as baking, cleaning or sitting idle. That shortens the visit.
