What OVEN IS COOLING DOOR IS LOCKED means
On GE Profile wall ovens with an LCD text display, including the PT7800, PK7800 and PT9800 series, the message OVEN IS COOLING DOOR IS LOCKED means the door latch is engaged because the temperature inside has not dropped below the locking temperature. This usually follows a self-clean cycle or very hot cooking. The door unlocks by itself once the oven has cooled enough, so the lock is a safety feature rather than a problem.
Common causes of OVEN IS COOLING DOOR IS LOCKED
- Oven cavity still above the locking temperature after cleaning or high heat
- Normal cool-down period after a self-clean cycle
1. Allow the oven to cool; do not try to force the door. 2. Keep children and pets away from the hot door. 3. Check the display again after a while; the message clears when the door unlocks. 4. Avoid starting a new cycle until the door is released.
- If the door stays locked long after the oven is cool to the touch, we check the lock motor and the temperature sensing that releases it.
- We make sure the latch is not jammed.

Why is my wall oven door locked?
The cavity is still hotter than the locking temperature, usually after a self-clean cycle or long high-heat cooking. The latch is held on purpose until the inside cools down enough to be safe.
How long until the door unlocks?
It depends on how hot the oven was. The door releases on its own once the temperature drops. If it stays locked long after the oven feels cool, the lock or sensing may need attention.
Can I open the door by force?
No. Forcing it can damage the latch and the door, and the cavity may still be dangerously hot. Wait for the oven to cool and let the control release the lock by itself.
