What F2 / F20 means
On GE, Profile and Cafe wall ovens with electronic oven controls, such as the JT3000, JK3000, PT7050 and JTS5000 series, F2 and F20 are two displays for an oven temperature that went past a preset threshold for a reason the control could not identify. The control shuts the heating down to protect the oven and the kitchen. You will see the code on the display, the oven stops heating and the cavity may be hot to the touch. These are listed among the more common codes, not the full list.
Common causes of F2 / F20
- Temperature sensor reading wrongly high
- Relay or heating control holding an element on
- Door or vent airflow restricted so heat builds
- Control board misreading the temperature
1. Switch the oven off at the control and leave the door closed until it cools. 2. Switch the circuit breaker or fuse off for a minute or two. 3. Restore power and set the clock if asked. 4. Try a low bake setting for a short test. 5. If F2 or F20 returns, stop using the oven and book a visit.
- A breaker reset only clears a one-time trip, so a returning code needs testing of the sensor and control.
- We separate a bad reading from real overheating by measuring the cavity temperature.
- A written price comes before any repair.
Other Wall Oven codes
What do F2 and F20 mean on a GE wall oven?
The oven temperature exceeded a preset threshold for a reason the control could not identify. It shuts heating down as a protective step, and the cause still has to be traced.
Is it safe to use the oven after F20?
Not if the code returns after a breaker reset. A real overheating event can damage the oven and nearby cabinets, so leave it off until it has been checked.
Are F2 and F20 the same code?
They are two displays for the same condition. Different control generations may show one or the other, but the steps and the diagnosis are the same.
Still seeing F2 / F20?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
