What F3 / F4 means
On GE, Profile and Cafe wall ovens with electronic oven controls, such as the JT3000, JK3000, PT7050 and JTS5000 series, F3 and F4 point to the oven temperature sensor. In most cases the sensor needs replacing, though the code only reports the circuit. The control cannot get a believable temperature, so it stops heating or runs unevenly. You may see the code on the display and an oven that will not preheat. The list of GE oven codes is not complete for every past and present model.
Common causes of F3 / F4
- Oven sensor probe reading open or shorted
- Sensor wiring or connector loose
- Heat damage to the sensor lead
- Control board misreading the sensor input
1. Let the oven cool completely. 2. Switch the circuit breaker or fuse off for a minute or two. 3. Restore power and set the clock if asked. 4. Try a short bake test at a low setting. 5. If F3 or F4 returns, leave the oven off and arrange a visit.
- A reset does not repair a sensor that has drifted or a lead that has burned.
- We measure the sensor and the circuit before replacing a part.
- A written price comes first.
Other Wall Oven codes
What do F3 and F4 mean on a GE wall oven?
They point to the oven temperature sensor circuit. The control cannot read the cavity temperature correctly, so heating is stopped or becomes unreliable until it is tested.
Will a breaker reset clear F3 or F4?
It might clear a one-time glitch. If the code returns, the sensor or its connection is usually the issue and needs testing and likely replacement.
Can the oven still bake with F3?
Do not count on it. Without a reliable sensor the temperature may be wrong, which can ruin food and is a safety concern, so wait for a visit.
Still seeing F3 / F4?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
