What F97 means
On GE, Profile and Cafe wall ovens with electronic oven controls, such as the JT3000, JK3000, PT7050 and JTS5000 series, F97 usually means an internal part needs replacing. It belongs to the same group as F96 and the F7X codes. You may see F97 with a dead keypad, an oven that will not heat or a cycle that stops partway. The code reports what the control found, not which part it was, so we test the control and the supply to it.
Common causes of F97
- Control or relay board reporting an internal condition
- Unstable power to the control
- Loose connector or wiring
- Stored error that has not cleared
1. Switch the oven off at the control. 2. Take power off at the breaker or fuse for a minute or two. 3. Restore power and set the clock. 4. Try a short test bake at a low setting. 5. If F97 returns, stop using the oven and book a visit.
- A reset leaves an internal condition in place, so F97 can return.
- We test the control, the supply and the wiring before suggesting a replacement.
- A written price comes first.
Other Wall Oven codes
Why is my GE wall oven showing F97?
It usually means an internal part needs replacing. The control found something it cannot clear, so it stops operation until the cause is repaired, and the display may stay on the code.
Should I keep using the oven with F97?
We do not recommend it. An unreliable control can heat unevenly or stop mid-cycle, so leave it off until we test it and tell you plainly what is needed.
Will F97 clear after a breaker reset?
It may clear once, but if the condition is real it will return soon. A reset is only a test, not a repair, and a returning F97 needs the control and supply checked.
Still seeing F97?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
