What CAnCELEd means
On GE electronic-control washers from 2017 onward, the Consumer Help Indicator can display CAnCELEd. It means a cycle was paused for more than 24 hours or was stopped by certain errors. The washer then holds a 4-minute lockout before it will accept a new start. Some front-load models add that water left in the drum with the door open for 15 minutes can trigger it, which is why the message sometimes appears after a forgotten load.
Common causes of CAnCELEd
- Cycle paused longer than 24 hours
- Water left in the tub with the door open
- Cycle stopped by an earlier error
- Four-minute lockout still running
1. Wait out the 4-minute lockout before trying again. 2. Note that unplugging the washer restarts the timer, so do not unplug it. 3. Close the lid or door fully. 4. Start a new cycle. 5. If CAnCELEd persists, call service.
- If the message returns on every cycle, an underlying error may be stopping the wash.
- We check what ended the last cycle and the door or lid switch.
- We confirm the washer drains the tub properly before it starts again.

Why did my washer cancel the cycle?
The cycle was paused too long, more than 24 hours, or stopped by certain errors. The control then ends it and locks out new starts for 4 minutes, so you may need to wait before you can begin again.
Should I unplug it to clear the message?
No. Unplugging restarts the lockout timer, so it only makes you wait longer. Leave the washer powered, wait out the 4 minutes, and then start your cycle again.
It cancels every cycle now. Is it broken?
Possibly an error is behind it. We read what the washer is reacting to, check the lid switch and the drain, and give you a written price before any repair. If everything checks out, we tell you plainly.
Still unsure about CAnCELEd?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
