What 19 means

On a GE UltraFresh front-load washer from the GFW510, GFW550, GFW650 or GFW850 line, code 19 is a timeout record. The control logs it when a cycle has sat paused for more than 24 hours, or when the pressure sensor still reads above 0.5 inch of water after the machine has been off for over 24 hours. A technician reads the number in the stored error history, and the display on these models may also show it. Often it simply means a cycle was left half done, or water remained in the tub.

Common causes of 19

  • Cycle left paused or unfinished for a day or more
  • Water still sitting in the tub
  • Pressure sensor reading that does not return to zero
  • Drain path that does not empty fully
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check whether any water or wet laundry is still in the drum and look at the drain hose for a kink. 2. Clean the drain pump filter if the owner's guide shows where it is on your model. 3. Run a drain or a short rinse cycle and see whether the water leaves the tub.

! Why to stop there
  • Water left in the drum points to a drain problem, while a dry drum with this record points to the pressure sensor reading
  • We test the drain path and the sensor reading with the tub empty
  • You approve a written price before any part is replaced, and repairs have a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
1919 questions
Does code 19 mean something broke?

Not necessarily. It can simply record a cycle left paused for over a day. If the tub holds water or the code repeats with an empty drum, we look at drainage and the sensor.

Why would the tub hold water?

A kinked hose, a clogged filter or a slow drain can leave water behind. We clear that first before blaming the control. Clearing that path first also protects the floor if the tub was holding water.

Is it safe to leave wet clothes in?

For mildew reasons we suggest removing them and leaving the door ajar after the water is gone. If water is sitting in the drum, drain it before the next load, then call us if the code returns.
