What tF means
On GE refrigerators with electronic dispenser controls, including Profile and Café models that have the feature, tF on the display means TurboFreeze is active. It is a setting and not an error. TurboFreeze runs the freezer colder for about 2.5 hours so that newly added food freezes quickly, and then the freezer goes back to its normal temperature. The refrigerator is behaving as designed while tF is shown.
Common causes of tF
- TurboFreeze chosen on purpose after loading fresh food
- TurboFreeze pad pressed by accident
- Cycle still running its 2.5-hour period
1. If you just added food to the freezer, let TurboFreeze finish by itself. 2. Wait about 2.5 hours and tF should disappear. 3. To stop it sooner, press the TurboFreeze pad on your control. 4. Keep the freezer door closed during the cycle. 5. If tF stays on much longer, call us.
- If tF does not end after its time, the control or pad may be holding the setting.
- We check the pad response and the cycle timing.
- A freezer stuck extra cold can overwork the cooling system.

What does tF mean on the display?
TurboFreeze is on. The freezer runs colder for a short time so that newly added food freezes faster, and then it returns to its normal temperature by itself. It is a setting, not a sign that anything is broken.
How long does TurboFreeze last?
About 2.5 hours. If tF is still showing long after that, the setting may be stuck or the pad may be misreading, and we can check the control for you and explain what we find.
Will TurboFreeze raise my energy use?
Only for the short time it runs, because the cooling system works harder during that period. It is a normal feature of these refrigerators and not a warning sign about the cooling parts.
