What C4 means
On GE electronic dishwashers that show C-codes, such as the GDT530PSDSS, C4 means the tub filled twice after a power failure. The control found water where it expected a fresh start, and one cause is a float switch that is stuck or not working. A clogged drain or sump can also hold the water. You will see C4 on the display and the cycle halted. Water may be sitting higher than normal in the tub.
Common causes of C4
- Float switch stuck in the raised position
- Float cover pinned by debris
- Drain or sump clogged with food
- Water left in the tub after a power interruption
1. Touch Start, then touch Cancel or Reset. 2. Gently tap the float cover in the tub with your finger so it moves freely. 3. Check the sump area at the bottom for bits of food or glass and remove them. 4. Start a cycle again. If C4 returns, stop and schedule a visit.
- Freeing the float cover does not prove that the switch behind it works.
- We test the float switch and the fill valve, and check whether the drain path holds water.
- A written price comes before we begin.
Other Dishwasher codes
Why did C4 appear on my GE dishwasher?
The tub filled twice after a power failure. It usually points to a stuck float switch, or to a clogged drain or sump holding water.
Why does a power cut cause C4?
After power returns, the control checks the water level. If it sees water it did not expect, a float that is stuck or a drain that is blocked makes it fill again.
How can I check the float myself?
Tap the float cover in the tub lightly so it moves up and down. Do not take anything apart. If it sticks or the code returns, we should test it.
Still seeing C4?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
