What C7 means
On GE electronic dishwashers that display C-codes, such as the GDT530PSDSS, C7 means the water temperature sensor circuit is not working. The control uses this sensor to know whether the wash water is hot enough, and when the reading is missing or out of range it stops and shows C7. You will see the code and either a cycle that will not start or one that cancels. Because the circuit is involved, not just cold water, the supply temperature alone will not explain it.
Common causes of C7
- Temperature sensor reading open or shorted
- Wiring or connector to the sensor worn or loose
- Control reading the sensor input incorrectly
1. Turn off the dishwasher's circuit breaker for about 30 seconds. 2. Turn the breaker back on. 3. Close and latch the door firmly. 4. Start a short cycle and watch whether C7 returns. If it does, stop using the dishwasher and book a visit.
- A reset cannot repair a sensor that has failed or a loose connection behind the tub.
- We test the sensor circuit before replacing anything.
- We give you a written price first.
Other Dishwasher codes
What should I understand from C7 on a GE dishwasher?
The circuit for the water temperature sensor is not working. The control cannot read how hot the water is, so it stops the cycle rather than guess and risk a poor wash.
Is C7 related to C6?
No. C6 means the incoming water is too cool, while C7 means the temperature sensor circuit itself is not responding properly. A hot tap at the sink will not clear C7.
Is there an owner step for C7?
A breaker reset for about 30 seconds is the owner step. If C7 returns, the sensor or its wiring needs to be tested, and we do that on site before quoting any repair.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
