What nH (Delay Start) means
On GE electronic dishwashers that display C-codes, such as the PDT855SSJSS, a number followed by H, such as 1H or 2H, is the Delay Start display. It shows how many hours remain before the wash will begin. It is not an error and nothing is wrong with the dishwasher. You will see the display stay lit and the dishwasher stay quiet because the delay is counting down. When the time runs out, the wash starts on its own and the display returns to normal.
Common causes of nH (Delay Start)
- Delay Start selected on the panel
- Delay Start pressed by accident while loading
- Control counting the hours before the wash begins
1. Read the number: 1H means one hour remains, 2H means two hours remain. 2. If you want the wash to begin sooner, cancel the delay and start the cycle. 3. Otherwise leave the door closed and let the countdown finish. 4. Add detergent before the delay ends.
- If the wash does not start when the delay ends, the control may not be advancing the timer.
- We test the control and door switch if the dishwasher stays idle after the countdown.
- We tell you what we find before work.

What does 1H or 2H mean on my GE dishwasher?
It is the Delay Start display. The number is the hours left before the wash begins, and it is a normal state rather than an error.
How do I cancel Delay Start?
Cancel the delay on the panel and start the cycle as usual. If you do nothing, the dishwasher will start on its own when the time runs out.
What if the dishwasher never starts after the delay?
Check that the door is latched and the panel is not showing another code. If nothing happens when the countdown ends, the control or door switch should be tested.
