What PROBE means
On GE and GE Profile wall ovens with a probe, such as the PT960, PT9550 and JT965 series, PROBE appears in the display as a reminder to enter a probe temperature after the probe is plugged in. The oven is waiting for the target internal temperature, so it will not start probe cooking until you give it one. The same wording appears on probe-equipped Café and Profile ranges.
Common causes of PROBE
- Probe plugged in but no target temperature entered
- Probe left plugged in after cooking
- Probe jack still holding the oven in probe mode
1. Enter a probe temperature. 2. Or remove the probe from the jack if you do not need it. 3. Make sure the probe tip is in the thickest part of the food. 4. Close the oven door normally with the probe cord in place.
- If PROBE shows with no probe plugged in, we check the probe jack and wiring for a false reading.
- We also check the probe itself.

Why does my oven show PROBE?
The probe is plugged in and the oven is waiting for a probe temperature. Enter a target temperature, or remove the probe if you are not using it for this meal.
What if no probe is plugged in?
Remove any cord from the jack and look for moisture. If PROBE stays on, the jack may be reading a probe that is not there, and it should be checked.
Can I bake normally with it showing?
Remove the probe or enter a temperature first. Then start your normal bake setting as you usually do, and the display should return to its regular readout.
Still unsure about PROBE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
