What Reset Filter light means

On GE and GE Profile over-the-range microwaves with an Upfront charcoal filter, such as the PVM9005SJSS, JVM7195SKSS and PVM9179SRSS, the Reset Filter light is a timed reminder, about every 6 months, to replace the charcoal filter. It does not detect a dirty filter. The light reminds you on a schedule, and it stays on until you replace the filter and reset it from the control panel.

1. Replace the charcoal filter with a new one made for your microwave. 2. Press and hold Reset Filter for 3 seconds. 3. Check that the light goes off. 4. Clean the grease filter while the microwave is cool, since it is a separate part.

! Why to stop there

If the light stays on after replacing the filter and resetting, we check the control for a pad that is not registering.

Does the light mean my filter is clogged?

No. It is a timer, not a sensor, so it reminds you about every 6 months whether or not the filter looks dirty. It does not measure how much the filter has caught.

How do I turn it off?

Replace the charcoal filter, then press and hold Reset Filter for 3 seconds. The light should go off and the six-month reminder starts counting again.

What if it comes back right away?

Then the reset did not register. Try the 3-second hold again. If the light remains on, the control needs checking, and we can test the pad and the timer.
