What 8 means

On GE UltraFresh front-load washers in the GFW510, GFW550, GFW650 and GFW850 series (2020 and newer), code 8 means the control did not see the expected water-pressure changes while the tub was filling. That points to a leak or clog in the pressure-sensing path, or to a lot of water leaving the tub as fast as it comes in. The number is read from the washer's stored error history by a technician, or shown on the display on these models, so what you notice is usually a fill that stalls or a cycle that stops early.

Common causes of 8

  • Pressure hose and sensing path for a clog, pinch or loose connection
  • Water leaking out of the tub during fill
  • Drain hose position that lets water siphon out while filling
  • Pressure sensor wiring and connector at the control
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pause the cycle and look at the floor and the hose connections at the back for drips. 2. Check that the drain hose is seated in the standpipe with an air gap and is not pushed down so far that it siphons. 3. Make sure both supply valves are fully open. 4. Do not open any panels to look for the pressure hose yourself.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether the pressure hose is partly blocked or the sensor itself reads wrong stays unknown until it is tested
  • We trace the sensing path and watch the fill with the tub observed for leaks
  • The estimate is written and approved before we replace anything, and repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

What does a pressure sensor do?

It tells the control how deep the water is by sensing air pressure in a small hose. If that reading does not change during fill, the control records code 8.

Can a drain hose cause this?

Yes, a hose pushed too far into the standpipe can siphon water out while the tub fills, which looks to the control like a pressure loss. We check the hose height first.

Does code 8 always mean a bad sensor?

No. It describes missing pressure changes, which a clog, a loose hose or a leak can also cause, so we test the whole path before replacing a part.
