GE UltraFresh Washer Code 57: Door Unlocking While Water Is High

What 57 means
On GE UltraFresh front-load washers (GFW510, GFW550, GFW650 and GFW850 series, 2020 and newer), code 57 means the door lock was releasing while the pressure sensor still showed water above the door-level threshold. That combination is unsafe, since opening a door against that much water could flood the floor. A technician finds the number in the stored error history, and the display on these models may show it as well. You may see a locked door with water inside or a cycle that stops.
Common causes of 57
- Pressure sensor misreading the water level
- Drain that is slow or blocked
- Door lock releasing at the wrong time
- Control logic reading level and door state together
1. Do not try to open the door if you can see water through the glass. 2. Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure it is not clogged or too high. 3. Clean the drain pump filter only if your owner's guide shows where it is, and have towels ready.
- Whether the water is real or the sensor reads high decides the repair, so we check the actual level against the reading
- We test the drain, the pressure sensor and the door lock behavior
- The price is written and approved before work, and the repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty

Is there really water above the door?
Sometimes yes, from a drain problem, and sometimes the sensor reads high. We compare the reading with what is in the drum. Draining the tub first is the safest step, because the door should never open against water above its threshold.
Can I open the door?
Not with water in view. We drain the tub first so the floor stays dry. It is a protection: unlocking against that much water could send it across the floor, so the control records the number.
Why is water above the door a problem?
If the door opened at that level, water could pour out over the floor. The control holds or records it to protect your home. A written price comes before any repair work begins.
