What Lid Locked light flashing means
On GE top-load washers without a text display (the GTW335, GTW465, GTW500 and GTW525 from 2019 on) and on the GUD24, GUD27 and GUV27 unitized washer and dryer, a flashing Lid Locked or Unlocked light is the quiet version of the Lid message. It tells you three cycles have been started without the lid being opened. The washer will not begin another cycle until you raise the lid. You see the light blinking and the Start button does nothing until the lid is opened.
Common causes of Lid Locked light flashing
- Lid not raised between the last few cycles
- Lid not closing completely afterward
- Lid lock or switch signal at the control
1. Lift the lid fully open. 2. Close it until it is fully down and the light settles. 3. Press Start to begin a new cycle. 4. If the light keeps flashing after you have opened and closed the lid, stop and let us look at it.
- If the light still flashes after a real open and close, we test the lid lock and switch circuit.
- We check the lid hinge and striker, since a lid that looks shut can still be a little off.
- Our price is written before work starts, with a 30-day workmanship warranty on the repair.

What does a flashing Lid Locked light mean on my GE washer?
On a model with no text display, it means three cycles were started without the lid being opened. Raise the lid and close it again, and the washer will accept a new start.
Is this the same as the Lid message on display models?
Yes, it is the no-display equivalent. Washers with a text screen scroll the word Lid, while the GTW335 through GTW525 class and the unitized units flash this light.
Will opening the lid between every load stop it?
Yes, the count restarts each time the lid is opened. If the light still flashes after you do that, we test the lid lock circuit and the lid hardware.
