What 999 means
On GE dishwashers, the display reading 999 has two meanings depending on the model. On Floor Protect with Alert models it warns of a possible leak, and the dishwasher will not start until it has been looked at. On the models covered by a reset procedure, such as the GDT225SGLBB, GDT225SSLSS, PDT145SGLBB, PDT145SSLSS and ZDT165SILII, the same characters mean the control needs a reset. You will see 999 on the panel and no wash cycle running.
Common causes of 999
- Leak detected under the tub on a Floor Protect with Alert model
- Control left in a stuck state after a power event on a reset-type model
- Water in the base pan from a hose, seal or door gasket
- Control lockout that will not clear without the reset sequence
1. Look under and around the dishwasher for water. If any is present, turn off the water supply to the dishwasher and keep it unplugged. 2. For a reset-type model with no water, hold Cycle Select and Start together for about 5 seconds until 999 clears. 3. Press any button. If 999 returns, stop using the machine.
- Seeing 999 clear after the reset does not tell us whether a leak ever existed.
- Water in the base pan needs its source traced, because a slow leak can damage the floor.
- We check hoses, seals and the pump area, and give a written price before any repair.

What is the 999 display telling me on a GE dishwasher?
On Floor Protect with Alert models it means a possible leak was detected. On the listed models with a reset procedure, it means the control needs a reset to clear.
How do I reset a 999 on my dishwasher?
On the models with a reset procedure, hold Cycle Select and Start together for about 5 seconds until 999 clears, then press any button. If water is under the unit, do not reset it.
Can I run the dishwasher after 999 clears?
Only if you found no water. If it was a leak alert or 999 returns, stop using it, because continued running can spread water and damage cabinets and flooring.
