What C5 means

On GE electronic dishwashers that display C-codes, such as the GSD2340VSA, C5 appears when the pump-out time was too short. The control expected the pump to run for a set period to clear the tub, and it ran for less. The shortfall can come from the dishwasher not taking in enough water, so there was little to pump out, or from a float that is stuck. You may see the code on the display and a wash that ended or never began.

Common causes of C5

  • Water supply valve closed or partly closed
  • Fill problem leaving too little water to pump
  • Float cover stuck so the control misreads the level
  • Fill valve not opening fully
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Confirm the water supply to the dishwasher is turned on at the shutoff valve. 2. Run the cycle again. 3. Tap the float cover in the tub so it moves freely. 4. Watch whether the tub fills with water at the start. If C5 comes back, stop and book a visit.

! Why to stop there
  • A short pump-out can be a fill problem, a float problem or a sensing problem, and the code does not say which.
  • We check the fill valve, the float and the drain timing.
  • Written pricing comes before any work.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
C5C5 questions
What does C5 mean on my GE dishwasher?

The pump-out time was shorter than the control expected. A weak fill or a stuck float are common reasons, since there may be little water to pump.

Could the water supply cause C5?

Yes. If the supply valve is shut or restricted, the tub takes in too little water and the pump-out ends quickly. Confirm the valve is open.

Do I need to reset after C5?

Starting the cycle again after checking the supply and float is the safe step. If the code repeats, the fill valve or float should be tested.
