What Fault 1 Lock Monitor means
On GE UltraFresh front-load washers in the GFW510, GFW550, GFW650 and GFW850 series, Fault 1 Lock Monitor means the control saw the motor shaft spinning above 45 RPM for 5 seconds in spin mode while the door was unlocked. The washer should never spin with an unlocked door, so it stops. This is a technician-level message normally shown only in a technician-level display mode. You may see a halted spin or the cycle ending early.
Common causes of Fault 1 Lock Monitor
- Door lock not reporting that it is locked
- Wiring between the lock and the control
- Motor speed reading while the door shows unlocked
- Control board reading the lock signal
1. Do not open the door while the drum is turning. 2. Wait until the drum has stopped completely. 3. Close the door firmly and run a short drain and spin. 4. If the message returns, stop using the washer and call us.
- The control compares door lock and motor speed signals, and the code does not say which side is wrong.
- We test the lock signal and the motor reading under the same cycle.
- A spinning drum with an unlocked door is a safety concern, so we do not suggest workarounds.

What does Lock Monitor mean in plain words?
It is a safety check. The control saw the motor spinning fast while the door appeared to be unlocked, which is never allowed during a spin. The washer stops the spin to protect you and the machine.
Can I keep using the washer?
We suggest not using it until it has been checked. A door that does not lock during spin is not something to ignore, and repeated spins could make the underlying problem worse.
Where did I see this message?
It is a technician-level message shown only in a technician-level display mode. If it appeared, tell us exactly what you saw and when it happened, and we use that to decide where to begin our testing.
