What Wash and Rinse lights blinking means
On the washer side of the GE unitized Spacemaker washer and dryer, models GUD24, GUD27 and GUV27, the Wash and Rinse lights blinking together tell you water is not entering the washer. The control reads this as a supply problem and starts a 4-minute lock-out before it will accept another start. You see the two lights blinking and the cycle stopped, often with the tub empty or only partly filled.
Common causes of Wash and Rinse lights blinking
- House supply valves not fully open
- Kinked or crushed fill hoses
- Clogged inlet screens at the washer connection
- Water inlet valve not passing water
1. Check that one or both water supply valves behind the unit are turned fully on. 2. Look at the hoses for kinks. 3. Wait the 4 minutes. Unplugging restarts that timer, so leave it plugged in. 4. Begin the cycle again. 5. If the lights blink again, stop and let us look at the washer.
- If water reaches the connections but the lights return, we check the inlet screens and the water inlet valve.
- Low house water pressure can mimic this condition, and we can tell the difference on site.
- The price is written before any work, with a 30-day workmanship warranty on the repair.
Other Washer codes
Why are the Wash and Rinse lights blinking on my GE Spacemaker?
The washer did not sense water entering. It treats that as a supply problem and locks the controls for four minutes. Check that the supply valves are on, wait, then restart the cycle.
Does unplugging the unit clear it faster?
No. Unplugging restarts the four-minute timer, so it takes longer. Leave the unit plugged in, let the timer finish, and then begin the cycle again.
Does this affect the dryer half?
No. This pattern describes the washer side only. The dryer half of the unitized unit has its own indicators and is not involved in this water-entry check.
