What Load Rebalancing means
On GE front-load washers from 2017 and 2018, the GFW450 family such as the GFW450SSMWW, Load Rebalancing is an information message. It tells you the washer detected an out-of-balance condition and is taking actions on its own to correct it and finish the cycle. On some models the Spin light blinks along with it. You may hear the drum slow, tumble and try again, which adds time to the cycle.
Common causes of Load Rebalancing
- Single heavy or bulky item bunched in the drum
- Mixed load of heavy and light fabrics
- Washer not standing level
1. Let the cycle continue. The washer is working on it. 2. If clothes come out wetter than usual at the end, spread the load out evenly in the drum. 3. Run a Drain + Spin cycle. 4. Check that the washer does not rock when you press on a top corner.
- If the message appears on every normal load, we check the leveling feet and how the washer sits on the floor.
- We also look for wear in the drum suspension when imbalance keeps happening with mixed loads.
- We quote the price in writing before work, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.

Does Load Rebalancing mean something is broken?
No. It is an information message that the washer is correcting an uneven load by itself. If the end of the cycle is fine, you do not need to do anything.
Why are my clothes wetter than usual after this message?
A cycle that had to rebalance may not reach full spin speed. Spread the clothes evenly and run Drain + Spin to get the water out of the load.
What loads cause it most?
A single towel, rug or comforter washed alone is the usual culprit. Adding a few similar items helps the drum keep the weight spread around the wall.
