What Control Lock means
On GE Profile induction cooktops PHP900 and PHP960, and on touch-control cooktops such as the PHP9030 and PP9030 that have a lock, the Control Lock light glows when the cooktop is locked. While locked, surface elements cannot be turned on, and locking while an element is on turns it off. This is a safety setting for cleaning or for homes with children, not a failure of the cooktop.
Common causes of Control Lock
- Control Lock pad touched on purpose or by accident
- Lock left on after wiping the glass
- Another household member set the lock
1. Touch and hold CONTROL LOCK for 5 seconds. 2. Listen for two beeps; the Control Lock light goes out. 3. Select your element and power level as usual. 4. Wipe the glass dry before using the pads, since moisture can make the lock behave oddly.
- If the lock will not release or turns itself on, we check the keypad for a pad that is reading constant contact.
- We also check the control for moisture damage.
Other Cooktop codes
Why won't my induction elements turn on?
The Control Lock light means the cooktop is locked, so no element can be switched on. Touch and hold CONTROL LOCK for 5 seconds to release it and use the cooktop again.
How do I know the lock released?
You hear two beeps and the Control Lock light goes out. After that, the elements respond to the pads again and you can select a power level normally.
Does locking turn off an element that is running?
Yes. Locking while an element is on turns that element off, so unlock the cooktop first and then set your heat level again from the start.
