What DOOR OPEN means
On GE Profile UltraFast combo washer-dryers such as the PFQ97HSPVDS, DOOR OPEN is shown when a cycle is started with the door not fully closed. The control refuses to begin because it must confirm a closed, latched door first. The drum does not fill or turn until it senses the door. The message clears once the door is shut and the washer detects it.
Common causes of DOOR OPEN
- Door not pushed fully shut
- Clothing caught in the door seal
- Latch or door signal not registering
1. Close the door fully until you hear it latch. 2. Check that no clothing or strap is caught in the door seal. 3. Press Start again. 4. If DOOR OPEN stays on after the door is closed, stop using the washer and call us.
- If the door is shut and the message stays, the latch or its signal wire needs testing.
- We check the latch and the control reading together.
- Forcing the door can damage the hinge.

Why does the washer say DOOR OPEN?
The washer did not detect a fully closed and latched door when the cycle was started. Push the door shut until it latches, and check that no clothing is caught in the seal, then press Start again.
It still says DOOR OPEN with the door closed.
A caught item or a latch that is not sending its signal can cause that. We inspect the latch and the signal that tells the control the door is closed, and we explain the result before any work.
Is this an expensive repair?
We give a written price before any work begins. If the latch is the only issue, the repair is often straightforward. Forcing the door can damage the hinge, so please do not do that.
Still unsure about DOOR OPEN?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
