What FE means

On GE electronic-control washers from 2017 onward, the Consumer Help Indicator can display FE. It means water has reached a critical level in the washer. The washer recognizes this as an overfill condition and stops. You may see more water in the tub than usual, a cycle that halts or water continuing to enter. This is a message to act on right away rather than wait out.

Common causes of FE

  • Inlet valve letting water in when it should be closed
  • Pressure sensor reading too high
  • Drain not removing water fast enough
  • Control not stopping the fill
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off the water supply to the washer. 2. Turn off power to the washer. 3. Do not restart the cycle. 4. Call us for service. 5. Wipe up any water on the floor and keep the area dry.

! Why to stop there
  • FE can be a fill problem, a drain problem or a sensor problem, and only testing tells them apart.
  • We check the inlet valve, sensor line and drain.
  • A washer that keeps filling can flood, so we advise not using it.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
FEFE questions
What does FE mean on my washer?

It means water has reached a critical level in the tub. The washer treats this as an overfill condition and stops. It is a message to act on right away rather than to wait out.

Why must I turn off the water and power?

If an inlet valve is stuck open, water can keep entering and eventually flood the laundry area. Shutting off the supply and the power prevents that while you wait for service.

How soon can you come and what will it cost?

We schedule promptly and give you a written price before we start any work. Our repairs include a 30-day workmanship warranty, and we tell you plainly what we find at the inlet and drain.
