What UE means
On GE electronic-control washers from 2017 onward, the Consumer Help Indicator can display UE, meaning the load is unbalanced. The washer cannot spin safely when the laundry is bunched on one side, so it pauses or slows. Messages vary by model. You may hear thumping or see the drum shift as the washer tries to rebalance. This is most often fixed by repositioning the load.
Common causes of UE
- Laundry clumped on one side
- Washer not level
- Mixed load with one very heavy item
1. Pause the washer and open the lid. 2. Reposition the laundry evenly around the drum. 3. Make sure the washer is level and does not rock when pushed. 4. Close the lid and restart the cycle. 5. If UE keeps returning, call us.
- If the load is even and the washer is level, wear in the suspension can be the next area.
- We check the leveling and how the drum moves.
- We would rather confirm the cause than guess at a part.
Other Washer codes
What does UE mean on my washer?
The washer detected an unbalanced load. Messages vary by model, but UE generally means the laundry is bunched on one side. Rearranging the clothes evenly usually solves it.
Does the washer need to be level?
Yes. A washer that rocks on its feet can show UE even with a well-balanced load. Adjust the feet so that all four sit firmly on the floor and the washer does not move when pushed.
UE shows even with small loads. Why?
Something may be off with the leveling or how the drum moves. We inspect it and give you a written price before any repair. Our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Still unsure about UE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
