What ON / Power indicator blinking means

On GE Profile and Café induction cooktops such as the PHP9030, PHP9036, PHP7030 and CHP90302, a blinking ON or Power indicator means the cooktop is not satisfied with the cookware. The cause is a pan that is not induction-compatible, a pan smaller than the element minimum, or a pan not positioned correctly on the element. Induction heats the pan itself, so without a suitable pan centered on the element, the cooktop will not deliver power.

Common causes of ON / Power indicator blinking

  • Cookware that is not induction-compatible
  • Pan smaller than the element's minimum size
  • Pan off-center on the element
  • Pan base warped so it does not sit flat
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Test the cookware with a magnet; it should stick firmly to the base. 2. Use a pan of the right size for the element. 3. Center the pan on the element and make sure it sits flat. 4. Try the element again once the pan is correct.

! Why to stop there
  • If the indicator still blinks with a magnetic, correctly sized and centered pan, we check the induction coil and the sensing that detects the pan.
  • We also test each element with known-good cookware.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
ON / Power indicator blinkingON / Power indicator blinking questions
Why is my induction ON light blinking?

The cooktop cannot detect a suitable pan. Common reasons are non-induction cookware, a pan that is too small for the element, or a pan sitting off-center.

How do I know if my pan works on induction?

Hold a magnet to the bottom. If it clings firmly, the pan is likely compatible. If it does not stick, the cooktop will not heat it.

What if my pan passes the magnet test?

Check that it is large enough, flat and centered. If the light still blinks, one element may not be detecting pans, and we test it with known-good cookware.
