What Power / ON indicator blinking means
On GE, GE Profile and Café electric radiant cooktops with touch controls, such as the JP5030, PP9030, PEP7030 and CEP90301, a blinking Power or ON indicator means the plus, minus or control lock pads were touched before an element was turned on. The cooktop expects to be told which element to switch on first. Pressing the level pads in the wrong order is the reason for the blinking, and it clears once the right sequence is used.
Common causes of Power / ON indicator blinking
- Plus or minus pad pressed before an element was turned on
- Control lock pad touched before selecting an element
- Accidental touch while cleaning the glass
1. Turn the element on first using its pad. 2. Then set the power level with the plus and minus pads. 3. Check the Operating the Cooking Elements section of your owner's manual for the exact order. 4. Wipe the glass dry so stray moisture does not register as touches.
- If the indicator blinks even when you follow the right order, we check the touch board for a pad that is reading constant contact.
- We also check for moisture damage under the glass.

Why is the power light blinking on my touch cooktop?
A plus, minus or control lock pad was touched before an element was turned on. The cooktop wants you to select the element first, then adjust the level.
Does this mean the cooktop is damaged?
No. It is a prompt about the order of the pads. Turn the element on first and set the level afterward, and the blinking stops.
What if it blinks while nothing is touched?
Moisture or residue can make a pad read as pressed. Dry the glass fully. If it keeps blinking, we test the touch board for a false reading.
